New-Look USPTO Website

Posted Friday, December 23, 2011 by Mike Gibbons

On December 20th, the USPTO unveiled a new version of the home page for its website.

The new page is very sleek-looking, with modern website elements in use such as a gallery leading to particular articles of interest (currently including a photo and link to a description of the office’s commemorative exhibit of Steve Jobs and his patents). The website is most frequently accessed by inventors and patent attorneys, as well as those seeking trademark registrations, among others.

Prominently featured on the new home page are these links: the “Data Visualization Center,” containing the dashboards where we can view the current backlog of patent applications at the PTO and other such metrics; a section designed to provide assistance to Independent Inventors; and the blog of the Director of the PTO, David Kappos.

The PTO feels the new home page “better presents the activities and services of the USPTO to the public, and is more accessible to the user community.” Those who preferred the legacy page shouldn’t fret, at least not yet, as it is still available until February 29th, 2012.

The office plans to continue revising web pages on its site for content beyond the home page so that it eventually all has the same look and feel.
